Everything people ask before they book
If you are renting a dumpster for the first time, you probably have the same dozen questions everyone does: what it costs, what size, whether the city will fine you, and what you cannot throw in. The answers below are the ones we give on the phone every day. If yours is not here, call (601) 821-2292 — a real person in Jackson will answer it.
Part 1
Pricing
How much does a dumpster rental cost in Jackson, MS?
Most rentals typically run $350 to $750, depending on the size, the material, the address, how long you keep it and the weight. You get a flat rate on the phone covering delivery, pickup, a 7-day rental and the included tonnage — 1 to 2 tons on a 10 yard, 2 to 3 on a 15, 3 to 4 on a 20, 4 to 5 on a 30, 5 to 6 on a 40. Going over is charged at the disposal rate. The cost guide breaks it down.
Is delivery and pickup included in the price?
Yes. Delivery, pickup, the rental period and disposal up to the included weight are all in the one flat price. No fuel surcharge, no environmental fee, no surprise charges.
What causes extra charges?
Three things: going over the included weight (we weigh the load and charge the overage at the disposal rate, which depends on where it tips — the City of Jackson's rubbish site charges $5 a cubic yard, the Canton landfill posts $38 a ton), keeping the container past the rental window, and banned items found in the load. We explain all three on the first call so there is nothing to find later.
Do you charge more for heavy materials like concrete or dirt?
Not a different rate — but concrete, brick, dirt and tile use up the included tonnage fast. So we size heavy loads differently (a 10 yard loaded level, or split loads) and tell you where the weight line is before you load.
What payment methods do you accept?
All major credit and debit cards. Payment is taken when your booking is confirmed, to hold your delivery slot. Repeat commercial clients can ask about PO billing and ongoing service plans.
Part 2
Sizing
What size dumpster do I need?
A 10 for a bathroom, a garage or heavy material, a 15 for a kitchen or flooring, a 20 for a whole-house cleanout or multi-room remodel, a 30 for a renovation to the studs or a big cleanout, a 40 for commercial demolition. Weight decides for dense material — see the size guide.
What happens if I order too small?
You pay for a second haul, which costs more than the step up to the next size would have. When in doubt, size up — or describe the job and let us size it.
What is the biggest dumpster you offer?
A 40 yard: about 22 ft × 7.5 ft × 8 ft, roughly 12 pickup loads, 5–6 tons included. It is a job-site container, not a driveway one.
How full can I fill it?
Level with the top rail. Overfilled boxes cannot legally or safely be transported, and the tarp has to close over the load.
How much does a roof tear-off produce?
A 10 yard handles a shingle roof up to about 30 squares, and a 20 up to about 50. Tell us the number of squares and the layers and we will plan it around the weight.
Part 3
Permits, placement and city rules
Do I need a permit to have a dumpster delivered?
On your own driveway or private property in Jackson, we found no City permit for a roll-off. In a street, alley or sidewalk, the City Code makes containers and obstructions unlawful (Sec. 110-61, fines of $100, then $250, then $500), and building work can use part of a street only with written authorization from the City's engineering section or the building inspector, with lights on the corners every night and a 90-day limit (Sec. 110-21). We found no published fee for it. Other cities differ — Ridgeland bans containers in streets, Canton bans obstructing streets and sidewalks, Madison keeps temporary storage units on the driveway. The permit guide and your town page cover the details.
Can the dumpster go on the street if my driveway won't fit it?
In Jackson, only for building work and only with the City's written authorization naming the part of the street you can use (Sec. 110-21). Allow days, not hours, and call the City before you count on it. Tell us when you book and we line the delivery up with it.
Why do some of your town pages say the city licenses haulers?
Because some do. Jackson requires every contract hauler to hold a Public Works permit — $50 a vehicle a year, each truck inspected, permit number on the truck (Secs. 106-86 to 106-88). Clinton requires a licence through the City Clerk, $50 a year plus a $500 bond (Sec. 46-196). Brandon requires private collectors to hold a privilege licence approved by the mayor and aldermen (Ch. 66). Ask us to confirm ours. Flowood, Richland, Bolton, Florence and Pelahatchie want a general business privilege licence. We quote the section on each page and tell you where your job stands.
Why do some town pages say the city keeps household trash?
Jackson's code says residential solid waste is collected under the City's Public Works department (Sec. 106-111), Pearl's says the city's contractor picks it up (Sec. 30-27), and Canton's says the city collects all residential and commercial garbage (Sec. 14-15) and sends it to the Canton landfill (Sec. 14-6). The same codes put construction and demolition debris on the owner — Jackson Sec. 106-116, Pearl Sec. 30-28, Canton Sec. 14-26 — which is what a roll-off carries. We tell you straight on the phone where your job stands.
Does my HOA matter?
It can. Many subdivisions in Madison County and Rankin County have covenants, and Madison's permit process asks for HOA approval where covenants require it. We do not know your HOA's rules — check them before you book.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
Ask for boards under the rails and the driver puts them down. He will tell you before delivery if a surface needs more than that.
How much space does the truck need?
A straight, level run of about 60 feet and 25 feet of overhead clearance. Power lines, tree branches, carports and parked cars are the usual problem.
Part 4
Booking and delivery
How do I book a dumpster?
Call (601) 821-2292. Tell us the address, what is going in and roughly how much, and we quote it flat and schedule it on the same call.
How fast can you deliver?
Same-day in Jackson and many nearby cities when you call before noon, depending on availability; next morning is more usual at the edges of the metro.
What are your hours?
24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Storm requests go to the same number.
How long can I keep the dumpster?
7 days as standard. Call before the pickup date and we extend it at a daily or weekly rate. Some rules set their own clock: Jackson wants a demolition site cleared within 30 days after the demolition, Byram does not let construction debris sit on a residential lot more than 30 days, and Jackson's written street authorization runs 90 days at most. Your HOA may have its own limit.
Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?
No. Agree the spot with us, keep it clear of vehicles and trailers, and the driver sets it down. Same for pickup.
Can I book multiple dumpsters at once?
Yes. Staggered deliveries and swaps across several sites are routine for contractors and property managers.
Part 5
Service area
What cities do you serve?
Jackson, Clinton, Byram, Terry, Raymond, Bolton, Edwards, Utica and Crystal Springs; Madison, Ridgeland, Canton, Flora and Gluckstadt in Madison County; Pearl, Brandon, Flowood, Richland, Florence, Pelahatchie and Star in Rankin County — each with its own page. The complete Jackson guide pulls it together.
Where is Bin Rocket Dumpsters based?
At 1800 Bailey Ave, Jackson, MS 39203.
Is service different in the far towns?
Mostly the timing. Canton, Edwards, Crystal Springs, Pelahatchie and Utica are 25 to 33 road miles from the yard and more often next morning than same-day. Price depends partly on the delivery address, and we say any difference up front.
Do some cities restrict who can deliver a roll-off?
Yes — Jackson, Clinton and Brandon license haulers, and Canton sends its waste to its own landfill. Each town page says what that city's code says, and we tell you where your job stands when you call.
Part 6
What we take
What can I put in a dumpster?
Household junk and furniture, mattresses, wood, drywall, flooring, cabinets, roofing shingles, small non-hazardous appliances, yard waste and branches, and concrete, brick, asphalt or dirt loaded level within the weight limit.
What can't go in a dumpster?
Tires and lead-acid batteries — Mississippi keeps batteries out of household waste (Miss. Code Sec. 17-17-429) and tires out of unauthorized sites. Used oil and other liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, propane tanks and gas cylinders, chemicals, medical waste and asbestos. Fridges, freezers and A/C units only with the refrigerant professionally recovered. Nothing hot. The what can and cannot go in guide says where each of those goes instead.
Can asbestos-containing material go in a dumpster?
No. MDEQ wants a building inspected by MDEQ-certified inspectors before demolition, a notice 10 working days before any regulated demolition (asbestos found or not), and the same notice before a renovation that disturbs at least 160 square feet, 260 linear feet or 35 cubic feet of regulated asbestos. Homes of four or fewer units are generally exempt from the notice, but asbestos still goes with a certified abatement crew to a landfill approved for it, never in a roll-off.
Can I put concrete, brick or dirt in a regular dumpster?
In a 10 or 15 yard loaded level, yes. Heaped in a 20 or 30 it is more than the truck can lift. Jackson's city trucks will not take any of it, which is why so many patio and driveway jobs end up with a 10.
Can I put a mattress or an old appliance in?
Mattresses, yes. Small non-hazardous appliances, yes. Fridges, freezers and A/C units need the refrigerant recovered first — and rubbish sites will not take them otherwise.
What happens to the debris after pickup?
It goes, tarped, to a permitted site. Clean construction debris, concrete, brick and yard waste go to Class I rubbish sites such as the City of Jackson site in Byram; household junk and mixed loads go to a permitted municipal landfill; loads from inside Canton go to the Canton landfill, as its code requires. Metal, concrete, cardboard and yard waste are recycled where the facility takes them. Nothing goes to a random dump.
