Where Your Debris Goes: Jackson-Area Disposal Sites

Every flat rate includes disposal, and where a load ends up depends on what is in it and where it came from. Here are the public sites around Jackson, what their own pages and codes say, and what they do not.

Where Your Debris Goes: Jackson-Area Disposal Sites

Two streams: rubbish sites and landfills

Under MDEQ's rules, clean construction debris, concrete, brick, wood, furniture and yard waste can go to a Class I rubbish site; a Class II site takes only vegetation and brick, concrete, stone and asphalt. Household garbage, food waste and mixed junk have to go to a permitted municipal solid waste landfill. Every rubbish site bans household garbage, liquids, paint and chemical containers, engines, whole tires, batteries, hazardous waste and regulated asbestos. So the first thing we ask is what is going in — it decides which kind of site the load can go to.

City of Jackson rubbish site, Byram

The City of Jackson owns and runs a Class I rubbish disposal site at 6810 I-55 South Frontage Road in Byram. It takes construction debris, brick, mortar, concrete, stone and asphalt, vegetation including stumps, appliances with the motor removed, furniture, sawdust and chips, tires and metal appliances, and gives away free mulch to self-loaders. City Code §106-148 sets the fees:

MaterialFee
Construction and demolition debris$5.00 a cubic yard
Rubble, asphalt, asphalt shingles, tree trunks, concrete, dirt$5.00 a cubic yard
Vegetative debris$5.00 a cubic yard
Tires$1 car or truck, $3 commercial, $5 tractor, farm or skid-steer

Volume is length × width × height in feet, divided by 27. City-collected loads are free. §106-153 bars ground glass, flammable liquids, oil, sewage, vehicle bodies, wire longer than 4 feet and hazardous waste unless approved. Hours and a phone number are not published on the City's page, so call the City before you drive a load there yourself.

Little Dixie Landfill, Ridgeland

Little Dixie is a municipal solid waste (Subtitle D) landfill at 1716 North County Line Road, Ridgeland, run by BFI Waste Systems of Mississippi, LLC, on 165 permitted acres. It is on MDEQ's February 2026 list of active facilities and is about 10 road miles from our yard — the nearest landfill for household junk and mixed loads. MDEQ's asbestos landfill list also names it as approved to take asbestos waste. Its fees, hours and accepted-materials list are not published.

Canton — the flow-control city

Canton's code §14-6 says all municipal solid waste generated inside the city and disposed of in Mississippi must go to the City of Canton landfill at 303 Soldier Colony Road — up to $1,000 and 90 days for a violation, each day a separate offense. So a Canton load goes to Canton. The landfill is both a Class I rubbish site and a Subtitle D landfill, takes construction debris, household garbage, natural vegetation, tires and white goods, and accepts waste from Madison, Hinds, Holmes, Simpson, Warren, Copiah, Rankin and Yazoo counties. Its published rates are a State Tax Fee of $38 a ton, an Environmental Charge of $5 plus a $1 tax fee, and a $1 fuel surcharge. Canton residents in cars, pickups of one ton or less and two-wheel trailers get in free (§14-52). Hours are not published; the landfill line is 601-859-8626.

Rankin County: Pearl, Richland and Brandon

Pearl sends bulky items to the City Compactor, 201 Compactor Road (601-932-9222), open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed noon to 1, and Saturday 7 a.m. to noon. It charges by the vehicle:

VehicleResidentNon-residentCommercial
Pickup bed$15$30$50
Single axle, up to 16 ft$20$40$65
Tandem trailer, up to 24 ft$25$90$80
Small 1-ton$40$90$140
Flat bed with dump$85$170$260

It takes no tires, fuel containers, flammable liquids, limbs, paint or computers. Richland runs a city dump on West Harper Street by the railroad tracks for residents only, with proof of residence — the city's page says "NO CONTRACTORS" — on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until full; no tires, fuel containers, flammable liquids, limbs or paint. Brandon says plainly that it "DOES NOT have a public dump or disposal site." Rankin County tells residents to take large items to its Marquette Road site in Brandon; the county and MDEQ pages give different street numbers for it, so call the Solid Waste Department (601-825-9213) first. Hours, fees and the accepted list there are not published. MDEQ lists no municipal solid waste landfill in Rankin County at all.

Hinds County and the rest of the list

We found no county-run rubbish site or landfill on Hinds County's pages; the county runs free waste-tire drop-offs for residents at Bolton, Raymond and Terry. Clinton runs spring and fall citywide cleanups with city dumpsters for residents. Other sites appear on MDEQ's facility lists — the Mt Helm Road Class I rubbish site near Brandon and Waste Management's Jackson Transfer Station on Country Club Drive (October 2025 list), Madison South Rubbish Landfill on North County Line Road in Ridgeland (February 2026 list), and the Faircloth rubbish landfill near Clinton and a Copiah County Class II rubbish site at Crystal Springs (2018 list). Those are listed by MDEQ; their hours, fees and who they take from are not published, so we do not send customers to them.

What it means for your load

Keep it sorted and keep it clean. A box of concrete, brick and dirt, or a box of limbs and brush, can go to a rubbish site; add a mattress and a bag of kitchen trash and it becomes a landfill load. Tires, batteries, paint and fridges with refrigerant do not go to either in an ordinary load — the what-goes-in guide says where they go instead. Canton jobs go to Canton. Everything else we route to a permitted site that takes that material, and the disposal is in your flat rate. Call (601) 821-2292, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and tell us what is going in.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take my own debris to the Jackson rubbish site?

The City publishes the site and the fees — $5.00 a cubic yard for construction debris, concrete, dirt and vegetation — but not the hours or a phone number. Call the City before you load a trailer.

Where does a Canton dumpster load go?

To the City of Canton landfill on Soldier Colony Road. Canton Code §14-6 requires all municipal solid waste generated in the city and disposed of in Mississippi to go there.

Can a contractor use the Richland city dump?

No. The City of Richland's page says the dump is for residents only, with proof of residence, and "NO CONTRACTORS." It is open Saturdays only.

Does Brandon have a public dump?

No — the City of Brandon says it does not have a public dump or disposal site, and its collector will not take construction, remodeling, roofing or tree-removal debris. A roll-off is the usual answer.
